The following is a list of FAQs around resoling your Zamberlan boots with original factory Zamberlan Vibram outsoles. Please comment if you have additional questions so we may update the FAQs from time to time.
Resoling FAQ's
Q: What do I do if my model of boot is not listed on the available outsole list?
Please understand it is not feasible for Zamberlan USA to stock replacement outsoles for all of the models we currently produce or have produced over the years. We have already identified the most popular models with the greatest demand to serve as large a percentage of the market as possible. If your model is not listed, it could be that it uses what is called an "open mold" outsole, meaning an outsole that is not exclusive to Zamberlan. In this case, the Cobbler can probably still resole your boot by simply acquiring the outsole from Vibram (if they do not stock it already).
Q: How much does the resoling service cost?
Pricing for the resoling service is determined exclusively by the Cobbler. Zamberlan USA does not set pricing for any service offered by the Cobbler, who is an independent company. You can contact our Cobbler directly to receive a quotation for service.
Q: What if my boot needs a new Rubber Rand?
We also stock Rubber Rand replacements for the following models: 1006 Vioz Plus GTX RR; 960 Guide GTX RR; 980 Outfitter GTX RR; 1025 Tofane NW GTX RR; and the 1030 Sella NW GTX RR. Please let our Cobbler know you would like the Rubber Rand replaced and he will special order the replacement rand from Zamberlan USA.
Q: Is there a guarantee of workmanship?
Any guarantee of workmanship is determined by the Cobbler. Zamberlan USA does not guarantee the workmanship of any Cobbler and does not warrant either the outsole nor the resoling work of the Cobbler.
Q: I don't know my boot's size, what do I do?
We recommend looking for the original receipt, order confirmation, or the original box for finding the precise size. If you do not know it, communicate the approximate size to the best of your ability to the Cobbler, who will work to match the correct size outsole to your boot.
Q: Can I have a Zamberlan outsole put on another brand's boot?
No. We do not allow our Cobblers to put exclusive Zamberlan Vibram outsoles on other boot brands. We do this given the tremendous investment that Zamberlan makes in its outsoles. In addition, we do not recommend putting the wrong Zamberlan Vibram outsole onto your boot (i.e mismatching), as each model we produce is engineered to fit the specifications of each of the individual outsoles. We make precise and intentional boots and match our outsoles to them for a precise and deliberate experience.
Q: How long will the resoling process take?
This really depends on shipping time to and from the Cobbler (Dave Page is in Seattle), and how busy the Cobbler is at the moment you are asking for service. Normal work times are about two weeks from start to finish, including ship times.
Q: How do I know it's time for my boots to be resoled?
If you see excessive wear on the lugs and are experiencing slippage when hiking, you can feel good about moving forward with a resole service. Note, there is no rule for determining when a resole should happen, but it is more of a matter of preference. Don't wait too long, however, as an overworn outsole can lead to damage to the boot's upper, which can be fatal to the life of the boot.
Q: How do I know if my boots can be resoled (i.e. are they too beat up)?
Sometimes boots are just too old, beat up, or mistreated to accommodate a resoling service. This can happen if the uppers are damaged, the leathers are over-oiled/conditioned, or the leathers are too dry. If you have specific questions about your boots, please contact the Cobbler directly and be prepared to send photos of your boots. The Cobbler will get you an answer before you send your boots in for a resoling service.
Q: What is an "exclusive" outsole?
The majority of Zamberlan boots utilize an outsole that is characterized as "exclusive". This means that although the outsole is produced by Vibram, Zamberlan owns the molds that are used in production and reserves the exclusive right to produce and use the outsole on our boot models. The process to design an outsole, build the various size molds, and bring a new outsole to market is extremely expensive and time-consuming, which is why most boot companies do not use exclusive outsoles. Zamberlan has exacting standards of performance and uses our exclusive outsoles to meet or exceed these standards, which vary from application to application. The opposite of an exclusive outsole is an open-mold outsole, which is available to every Vibram customer. Open-mold outsoles are also of a high quality but are not custom-made to meet precise standards for a specific model of boot.
